Poet wins over Irish fans
POET Paul Jeffcutt is making waves across the Irish Sea following the launch of his first ever collection of poems.
Paul, who grew up in Stonehouse and Highnam, has been awarded a civic reception in his adopted hometown of Banbridge, Northern Ireland, to mark the release of Latch.
Paul said: "When I tried to write poetry as a teenager I never imagined that I would ever get published."
Paul went to Saintbridge School in Gloucester where his love of literature was nurtured by English teacher John Passey.
After living and working in three different continents, he settled in Northern Ireland and he says he has been inspired by the area as it reminds him of Gloucestershire.
Paul said: "Because the local countryside so evokes the geography of my childhood, this area has had a powerful impact on my writing."
Patrick Ramsey, editor at Lagan Press, the company publishing Paul's book, said: "Latch, Paul Jeffcutt's debut sings with assurance."
